February 09, 2012

Agreement Expands NimbleCommerce's European Footprint to Include Netherlands, Denmark, and Norway

SANTA CLARA, CA--(Marketwire - Feb 9, 2012) - NimbleCommerce, an enterprise local marketing and e-commerce platform, today announced that it has signed a deal with Mecom, a leading pan-European news and information publishing business. Mecom has now adopted the NimbleCommerce platform to power branded daily deals on its group-brand Sweetdeal site, the #1 deal site in Denmark and #2 deal provider in The Netherlands.

Mecom is already using the NimbleCommerce platform to sell more than 100,000 deals per month, e.g. through its market-leading site in Denmark. Sweetdeal serves around 800,000 daily newsletter subscribers -- and Mecom plans to expand the NimbleCommerce-powered service to its additional publishing properties across Europe.

"At Mecom, we pride ourselves on shaping local and national news and information publishing through innovation and insight, connecting with our audiences wherever they are," said Marc Leimann, group consumer sales director for Mecom. "At the heart of the Mecom Group is the strength of 1.2 million subscribers and 40 paid titles -- and a long history of innovation as the first pan-European publisher entering the daily deal market in mid 2010 with Sweetdeal."

Publishing empire, funded in part by deals
In total, Mecom publishes over 300 titles -- dailies, weeklies, paid, and free -- and employs more than 6,000 employees in four country markets, serving more than 40 million monthly users across all its websites. Since 2010, Mecom has gone live with daily deals in four European countries and has entered 89 local markets.

In half of them, Mecom is the market leader, fueled by local marketing power that includes printed titles and online newspapers. The company's goal is to become the number one company in matching great merchant offers to consumer desires, meshing local know-how and information, media, and merchants who all can grow their businesses in mutually beneficial ways over the long-term.

Mecom previously employed a custom-made solution, but wanted a more flexible, local marketing and e-commerce platform that could be more easily branded and customized. With NimbleCommerce, Leimann said he's getting the professional excellence and scalability required to equip the company with a technology platform that will take Mecom to the next level. Capabilities include built-in support for multiple languages and full visibility into local requirements that match nearby news and consumer and merchant demand.

"We provide the scalability and native-language capabilities to help European customers succeed," said Prashant Nedungadi, founder and CEO of NimbleCommerce. "We look forward to powering Mecom's strategy, which puts products for the local community, consumers, advertisers, merchants, and media publishers, front and center. We are helping European publishers like Mecom re-invent their business models and income strategies 24 hours a day, 365 days a year."
